World Book and Copyright Day April 23

April 23, 2008 is World Book and Copyright Day, a yearly event organized by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and the protection of intellectual property through copyright.

According to UNESCO:
"23 April: a symbolic date for world literature for on this date and in the same year of 1616, Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors such as Maurice Druon, K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo."
In Canada, Canada Book Day is celebrated on that day.

I'm trying to write an extremely short article (less than 500 wds) about World Book Day outside the UK, for a very new magazine associated with the UK based website WritersDock. The UK celebrates World Book Day on March 6th, in order to focus on schools. The mag will probably come out some time in May.

Do you have any links to events in Canada?

Hello.

The province of Quebec seems to be the region that is most interested in celebrating the World Book and Copyright Day.

The list of activities from the official website is in French: http://www.jmlda.qc.ca/activitesRegion.aspx

The official press release is at http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/April2008/09/c2109.html

I have not yet found info about activities in English Canada.
